Trump recognises Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

On the December the 7th, the US became the first country to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city.  This is a relevant decision as it disrupts any chance of peace between the Palestinians’s and the Israeli’s.  Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised this idea as Israel considers the city its own and wants to move all embassies there.

For decades, there has been a divide between the Palestinians and the Israeli’s as the Israeli’s believe the West Bank is part of their “Eretz Israel (Land of Israel)”, Israel had illegal settlements in Gaza up until 2005 when they  pulled out leaving only the Arab Palestinian’s, but left with no agreement.  This made their relationship worse as they can attack the Gaza strip whenever they want, because they are not hurting their own people.

Trump, however, said that decision by the three former U.S. presidents,  left the Middle East “no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians” and that “it would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula would now produce a different or better result.”

Israel have a much stronger military and have nuclear weapons, making them much stronger and have all the power compared to Palestine.

“Today we finally acknowledge the obvious: That Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do. It’s something that has to be done,” Trump also added.  Trump didn’t sign the six month waiver that every other president has to delay this move.

This ruins America’s relationship with the greater Muslim world even more.  Since this, the Muslim world has never been more united than on this issue of Jerusalem.  Sunni and Shia Muslims are united and even Muslim countries that have been fighting against each other all have the same take on this issue.
